SPECIAL THEATER EVENT : Time of Reckoning Video Fundraiser
Date to be announced
Glitter and Razz
5951 College Ave. Oakland
A moving story of transformation and reconciliation, Time of Reckoning is a solo performance piece that chronicles one woman's journey to heal a 20-year rift with her father. Using theatrical character portrayal, narrative story-telling, movement and improvisation, Vicki Dello Joio describes how she made a transition out of an entrenched power struggle into a new paradigm of empowered and authentic communication. With humor and heart, this redemptive story is a powerful demonstration of how, as we work over time, we can achieve personal empowerment even within the context of difficult, long-term relationships.
Because so many people have asked to buy a DVD version of this piece, Vicki will be videotaping this performance. Come join us and be a part of the taping! If you missed VIcki's improvisational story-telling at her book launch or you'd like to see the new development of this piece since then, be sure not to miss it. Give a donation and receive the first release off the presses!
Suggested Donation: $20 (receive a coupon for a free DVD)

Kelly O’Brian hosted Vicki at her fabulous new studio, Kelly’s Fitness Plus in Weaverville in Trinity County.
The Way of Joy introductory workshop drew a great group of people, both new and experienced, whose ability to understand and integrate qi practices quickly was awe-inspiring! Maybe something about living in these beautiful mountains?

2011 began for The Way of Joy with our annual winter invocation workshop, Nourish the Flame. What a stupendous way to enter the New Year, as we worked to warm our kidneys, nurture our adrenals, fine-tune our intentions, and replenish our spirits. Two empowerment forms, lots of deep inner listening, and bouts of laughter made this afternoon an energizing launch into the new year!
2010 Events:
As the tempo stepped up for the holidays, a group of experienced and new practitioners gathered together at Glitter and Razz for a short 3 week series, Thriving through the Holidays. We worked with simple, qi-based practices to enhance vitality, ground energy and replenish wei qi (energetic boundaries). In other words, to de-stress and find calm at the eye of the “partying” storm. What a sweet way to end 2010 for the Way of Joy.
The Way of Joy Level 2 series ended on Dec 13 with a potluck gathering where this extraordinarily talented group of women took time to share the inspiration and challenges they find in the amazing work each of them does in the world. I am so moved by each one of these wise souls. Though the word may be overused, I have truly experienced our sessions as a privilege. We will be resuming this heart-centered series in 2011 with Level “2.5” to deepen awareness of the themes we’ve been working with as well as increase proficiency in the 2nd flowing form.
Vicki taught a weekend, graduate level, practicum at JFKU on Dec 3, 4 on Powerful Non-Defensive Communication. Working with interactive dialogue, qigong, role plays, and drama therapy skills as well as tools of Sharon Ellison’s ground-breaking, revolutionary work, (www.pndc.com) this highly focused group of 25 graduate students came together to learn and practice how to shift from a habitual “war model” of communication to a whole new paradigm. Laughter, tears of recognition and increased resolve to change old dysfunctional ways or relating…
Every year, the Trinity Alliance for the Healing Arts (TAHA) puts on a Healing Arts Fair in Weaverville, a beautiful mountain town in northern California. Weaverville is an especially creative place for me and is where I went on my sabbatical to write my book. Several years ago, I was struck by an inspiration of something I might offer at this annual fair.
So this year, on Oct 30, I hosted a booth where I offered ½ hour consultations to assess the qi flow of each person and then custom-make a 5-minute introductory practice for them to take home. I was struck by how many people were interested to try out what I have begun to call “A Spiritual Fitness Program”. I was especially moved by the courage and high level of commitment they had to enhance their vitality and sense of well-being. I was also delighted to represent the National Qigong Association and distribute brochures about the benefits of belonging to this wide-spread community of Qi practice enthusiasts.
It was truly a pleasure to be in such a dynamic, vibrant gathering of people interested in exploring the complementary healing arts.
Vicki’s popular yearly course on Embodying Spirit in the Graduate School of Holistic Studies program at John F. Kennedy University ended on June 16 with inspirational final presentations by all 24 students. From artistic expression to moving memoir, from qigong demonstrations and a belly dance to an exploration of the personal meanings of I Ching, I was stirred by the talent, creativity and joy expressed by this superb group of students/practitioners of the healing arts.
The annual NQA conference in Chaska, Minn. was stupendous. Lots of laughter and heart connections as well as a wide range of deepening qi practices for all levels of experience. The people drawn to this work are very special indeed and I feel grateful and inspired as I launch the autumn season.
Icing on the Cake: We on the NQA Board and Conference committee have been receiving lots of post-conference feedback that this was the Best Conference Ever! Mark your calendar and join us for the 2011 conference in Valley Forge, PA August 19-21, 2011.
The student evals from Vicki's presentation at the 2010 NQA conference have arrived. Almost all of the 21 students rated her class a 5 out of 5 (only one came in at 4 for "very good."). Comments included:
Great presentation ... Great interaction with students ... Absolutely delightful, educational, and professional ... makes Qigong more than just health exercises ... I came to the class because of the qi/energy of the instructor and her reputation as an excellent teacher. Vicki is an amazingly giving and joyful person. Her knowledge is deep on all levels of existence ... Helpful, energetic, empowering ... inspiring, practical, expansive, beautiful, simple ... perfect ... helps clients/students empower themselves ... reminder of the potential within us all!
The Flowing Forms master series ended on Sunday, August 15 in Vicki’s garden in Oakland, CA.
A particularly intuitive squirrel was our fascinated audience as we moved to the sounds of the brook fountain, hummingbird wings beating and the rhythm of the reggae group playing down the street at the local Farmer’s Market.

Vicki launched her series of spring workshops with Blossom in the Spring in Trinity County on Sunday, April 11. A group of intrepid students faced the rain to come out to the Khira Yoga Studio in Hayfork, CA for an afternoon of deeply integrative work with this beautiful seasional form. Vicki continued the series with Blossom in the Spring in Oakland, CA on April 18.
On April 3 Vicki traveled to Los Angeles for the premiere of Mamo Kim's new play CrazyMaking. She worked with Professor/Director Joyce Lu in several capacities for this play, including training cast members in a theatrical use of qigong and tai chi.. The show was a huge success with sold-out audiences and glowing responses.
On January 31, after attending a weekend board retreat in Austin, TX with the National Qigong Association, Vicki presented Riding the Chi of Change a workshop on transition. She concluded with a short, improvised theater piece about her relationship with her father, showing the power of transition in the Way of Joy process when we work over time to achieve personal empowerment within the context of difficult, long-term relationships. This workshop was also presented at the NQA conference in Chaska, Minn. during August, 2010.
The combination of four photos above (2001) shows Vicki demonstrating "Summoning the Spherical Fuel," one of a series of eight flowing forms she teaches in addition to other sitting, standing, walking and internal forms.
